Wednesday Night Clay Workshop

Coiled Pots

For Ages 14 and up

This is such a great way to make interesting pots, so we've scheduled it again. Making pottery out of coils of clay is as old as, well, pottery itself! Some date back 15,000 years. Contemporary ceramic artists use coils - basically ropes of clay - to create pots without working on the pottery wheel. The coils can be left as a visible textural element, or smoothed out, or a combination of both, as in our photo. In this class instructor Cray Charlebois will show you how to make coils and how to use them to build your own pot out of stoneware clay. We will fire it in our kiln, glaze it and fire it a second time. When it’s done, you may pick it up. This workshop is for ages 14 and up.

Class size is limited to 8 participants.

You may get messy, so bring an apron or wear work clothes and shoes that can get dirty. We recommend that you leave your rings at home.

All classes are held at Main Exhibit Gallery's accessible art center, located in the lower level rear of the gallery. Do not come to the front entrance of the gallery. Free parking is available in front of the building or in our parking area off Grant Street.
