Beginners Acrylic Abstract Painting
Beginners Acrylic Abstract Painting
with instructor Barry Gerst
4 Thursdays 1-4 pm beginning June 8
Explore various drawing and painting techniques in this four-week introduction to abstract painting aimed at helping you understand some of the concepts behind non-representational painting (painting without recognizable imagery).
Here's a rough itinerary:
Week 1 - We will begin with studies in black and white focusing on drawing from our senses, not our eye, to help us escape the need to use recognizable imagery to tap into our emotions.
Week 2 - Taking the favorite sketches from our last session and turning them into abstract paintings.
Week 3 - Approaching a blank canvas with no sketch, working intuitively
Week 4 - Explore how trying new things can take you in another direction. Push yourself to do things you normally wouldn't do.
This workshop does not require any prior painting experience. All materials are provided: your materials fee includes the paint, brushes, and canvases you'll need for the class and are yours to keep.
Ages 18 and up.
All classes are held at Main Exhibit Gallery's fully accessible Art Center, located in the lower level rear of the building at 301 West Main St., Ligonier PA, 15658. Free parking is available in front of the building or on the side at Grant Street.
