Wheel Instruction

Beginner Wheel Pottery with Cray Charlebois
7 Tuesday Mornings: October 17, 24, 31, November 7, 14, 21, & 28
- Wheel Instruction will take place on October 17, 24, 31, November 7, & 14
- A trimming class will be held on November 21 to help you finish up any pots for firing.
- A glazing class is set for November 28
In this seven-week beginner class, pottery instructor Cray Charlebois will teach centering on the wheel and cover basic throwing techniques. Students will explore ceramic forms as they make cups, bowls and other vessels, alter thrown pieces, and make and attach handles to mugs and pots. Cray will guide students in creativity while helping each student establish and work towards their goals in beginner ceramics. This class is also perfect for those who have already taken a wheel pottery class (here or elsewhere) but would like to review and expand their technique. After the 5th wheel session, Instructor Cray will also teach a trimming class to help students finish up any pots they've already made to prep for a bisque-firing (first firing) in our kiln. The final session will consist of glazing bisqued pieces. They'll then be fired and ready for pickup, typically in about 2 weeks!
- Instruction is from 9:30-12 pm. The last 1/2 hour is for continuing work, finishing and clean up.
- Registration includes the use of all clay tools, 1 bisque firing and 1 glaze firing, including glaze. We provide 25 lbs of clay for $18. Additional clay may be purchased for $18/25 lbs.
- Leftover clay should be taken home on glazing day, or donated to the studio.
- We provide cone 4-6 glazes from Standard Ceramics, however you are free to purchase your own for your use if you require special colors.
- Come in to practice for FREE during your 7 week class! Simply call the Gallery at 724-238-2310 to arrange studio time.
- Classes are limited to 7 students, ensuring a high level of individual attention, and are reserved on a first-paid basis.
- Payment is due with registration unless other arrangements are made. If you cancel 0-7 days before the class start date, we will issue a refund ONLY IF WE CAN FILL YOUR SPACE. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we cannot refund money once you have started the classes.
- Pottery is a messy business! Please bring an apron or wear work clothes and shoes that can get dirty.
- Leave your rings, smartwatches, and jewelry at home. Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items.
- Bring a hair tie if you have long hair.
- We ask that you pick up your pots within 2 weeks of your notification that they're ready. We have so many classes that our space can get quite full with students' work! Any pots left behind after 2 weeks without prior arrangements will be added to our "Adopt a Pot" shelf in our main gallery space.
- Please note that this is a wheel-only course. If you're interested in working with clay slabs or hand-building, check our our Wednesday Workshops with Cray Charlebois!
Thank you for registering!
All workshops are held at Main Exhibit Gallery’s fully-accessible Art Center.
Entrance located at the lower level rear of the building at 301 West Main Street, Ligonier, PA.
