Intermediate Oil Painting

Intermediate Oil Painting

with Doreen Currie

October 3, 17, 24, & 31 (No Class Oct. 10) | 1-4 pm

In this workshop, you'll dive deeper into color mixing, brush strokes and composition under the guidance of local artist Doreen Currie (if you've been in our Gallery, you've seen her beautiful landscape paintings). Doreen teaches still life - landscapes of fields and farms, woods and streams, flowers, baskets of fruit, etc - in an impressionistic style. Rather than teach a form of copying and exactness, she tries to get her own feelings and style into her work as well as capture the beauty of Pennsylvania in all four seasons. You'll spend two weeks working from photographs provided by the artist and two weeks working from still life set-ups.
Doreen is happy to work with beginners, but please note that this workshop is designed for someone with a little experience in oil painting, and might be too fast-paced for someone without any knowledge of the medium. Please bring your own materials--no materials are provided except for paper towels and wipes. Our Art Center has a water cooler available, but feel free to bring your own water/drink for during the class.

Materials List:

Please bring the following materials

  • Oil Paint Colors - I like Winton (It's a student grade of Windsor Newton). Ultra Marine Blue, Cerulean Blue, Alizarin Crimson, Cadmium Yellow Light, Burnt Sienna, Raw Umber, Titanium White
  • Medium - Windsor Newton Liquin Original
  • Brushes - Aspen Princeton Brushes - Flat #2, #4, #6. 1 small round brush for drawing

We are not able to issue partial refunds or transfer your registration to another class. We apologize for any inconvenience, but we cannot under ANY circumstances refund your tuition once you have started the classes.
  • Art is a messy business! Please bring an apron or wear work clothes and shoes that can get dirty with clay/paint/etc.
  • Leave your rings, smartwatches, and jewelry at home. Main Exhibit Gallery & Art Center is not responsible for lost or damaged personal items.
  • We have limited space for storing paintings, and no space for materials. Please plan to bring your pieces and materials to and from class each week. Items left behind and not retrieved within two weeks of the last class will be discarded.

Thank you for registering!
